The Management Team of a large Charitable Organisation was in dispute with the Board of Trustees over salary levels and accountability issues.

The leader of the Team had been establishing salaries without referring to the Board and had not been following operational criteria laid down by the Board.

It was agreed that a working party would be established to investigate salary levels within similar charitable bodies and their findings would be followed in establishing criteria for the salaries of the Team.

The Team agreed to accept the opinion of an independent assessor as to how their freedom of action was constrained by legal duties imposed on charities.
